Fri, Aug. 7th, 2009, 02:16 pm And now a post about me, rather than a meme

So, looks like LJ is down again, so I'll post here since this was all typed out and stuff. First the good news. Oh, no, wait. This is the really bad news. Got word last night that my oldest brother (66 years old and should know better), was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident yesterday. He and three of his sons were taking part in some kind of a charity ride or something, and he broke away to go home. On the way, he skidded on gravel and he and the bike slid 35 feet over the road. He has a smashed tibia, a broken wrist, broken elbow, really bad road rash across most of his skin, gashes on his face, and a small brain bruise (thankfully, not serious). By the time the doctors put in all the bars and bolts and whatnots, he's going to be the freaking bionic man. As of noon today, he hadn't had any surgeries yet because he's on blood thinner and they have to get that stabilized before they can take him to surgery. No doubt, he'll be spending many long weeks in a rehab facility. The good news is, he's neither dead nor crippled, though how fucked up his mobility is going to be is unknown at this time. On a happier note, after three days, the cats have finally decided yesterday to forgive me for going away and leaving them with strangers. JT came up on my lap three or four times yesterday evening for pets and scratches, and TJ actually crawled into my arms for a long nap; something he hasn't done for a while. I have yet to remember to bring my new Fool for Love Spike into the office with me. Maybe I'll keep him at home after all. Speaking of the office, the building maintenance crew is busy doing some renovations, and I am currently being driven mad by the sound of a drill boring into something in the next office. It's loud and very annoying. It's supposed to be hot this weekend. Though I am sure that there are many people who will be very happy about that, I've been enjoying the cooler weather. I just hope it doesn't get too hot to sleep.
Thu, Jun. 25th, 2009, 06:52 pm Holy shit!

Michael Jackson is dead! I saw the reports that he had been rushed to the hospital, but I didn't pay much attention to it. What a shock. So, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett & now Michael Jackson. That three went fast.
Wed, May. 13th, 2009, 10:01 am Another Wednesday has rolled around

This time next Wednesday, I'll be eagerly looking forward to 5pm, and the start of my mini-vacation. I'm not planning on going anywhere other than a party my oldest brother it throwing on the 24th, and I'm looking forward to lounging around, I hope in warm weather, and just relaxing and reading. I think I've already read the book I'm currently reading, Stealing Shadows by Kay Hooper. It's not that I really remember it, but it keeps setting off deja vu-ish 'pings' in my brain. So, it's like a book I've never read, except not. Weird. I thought last night was the finale for NCIS, but it wasn't. So, next week in the finale. Last night was the finale for Fringe and I'm ready for season two now!x-posted: dw, lj, ij
Mon, May. 11th, 2009, 09:03 am And it's Monday all over again

I didn't cross-post my last couple of entries, so this one will be. As I posted on LJ here (warning: spoilers), I went to see the new Star Trek movie yesterday, and I really enjoyed it. Funny thing though, (and this is all non-spoilery), as I left the theater, I thought, "I liked that, but I don't particularly want to see it again, and I doubt I'll buy the DVD), but by 9:00 last night I was thinking, hmmmm, [brother and sister-in-law] are going to go see it, maybe I'll tag along with them and watch it again. And, I wonder when the DVD is coming out. LOL Yeah, I think I'm kinda in love. Also? I need a Kirk/Bones icon. The only reason I wouldn't want to go back to see the movie is because I damned near froze to death yesterday. I swear it was below freezing in that theater. I think they sublet the building to a meat packing plant. I had a sweater with me and I was stretching it to try to cover myself to keep warm. I should have brought a thermal blanket and worn mukluks. Ridiculous. I continue my frenzied reading schedule. I'm on my fourth book for this month, and it's really good. I've been very lucky in the books I've picked out over the past couple of months. Though some were better than others, none were "bad" in the sense that I felt the need to just give up on them. Which I will if the book doesn't hold my interest at all. My philosophy is that there are too many books in the world to waste my time reading a bad one. :-) I got an e-mail this morning from Northwest Airlines that the time of my flight for Writercon has changed again. Now I leave at 1:45pm with is about 20 minutes earlier than the last time they changed it. This is okay by me, I just hope they don't cancel the damned flight. It's a long drive to Minneapolis from here. I was fairly happy with last night's finale on The Amazing Race though I would have preferred the second team to come in last. But, the team I was rooting for came in first, so yay! I watched the Dollhouse season (series?) finale yesterday, too. Man, I hope Fox gets their heads out of their asses and gives this show a second season. I'm not holding my breath, though, because it's Fox and they suck. It's Monday, and yet another dreary day. Double whammy. x-posted: dw, lj, ij
Fri, May. 8th, 2009, 01:52 pm Minus one plus four equals...

So, how does it happen that my pile 'o books keeps growing, you may ask? Well, it happens when I take one book back to the library and walk out with four more. *facepalm* I really was planning on picking up only one to replace the book I was bringing back. Logical, yes? Keep the pile at an even three books out at a time. On Monday, I then would probably have to replace two, but the third would most likely still be unfinished, so no lag time. And I wouldn't have to worry about keeping track of a great pile of borrowed books. Alas, however, I roamed. Roaming in the library for me is like roaming through a pastry shop with free samples everywhere. I can't keep my hands to myself. And so now instead of my reasonable three borrowed books, I have six. Oh, well, none of the new ones are especially long, so I should easily have all six books read long before they're due back. On the 20th however, it's going to be a library feeding frenzy as I'm taking Thursday and Friday prior to the Memorial Day weekend off, and I plan on many days of reading and napping. Perfect vacation! :-D But that means, I'll need to take my canvas book bag with me after work and fill it up. What to choose? What to choose? x-post: dw, lj, ij
Wed, May. 6th, 2009, 09:24 am Random post is random

I'm only working half a day today. I took this afternoon off to take the cat to the vet. My appointment's for 2:20, and since it's a 20 minute or so drive home, then a thirty minute drive to the vet's, I decided the heck with it and took four hours vacation. I've been getting slammed lately with Russian Spam Bot friending, and it's really irritating the shit out of me. I've reported every one. If there's one thing that really makes Dreamwidth look attractive, it's the absence of those damned spam bots. Yesterday at lunch time, I decided I wanted to just go someplace quiet to read my book. Since it was too cool to go over to the nearby college quad and sit in their little ivy-covered sitting area, I trotted across the street to the library. The library has a seating cluster - couch & chairs encircling a coffee table - in the lobby near the fiction section, but when I got there a rather skeezy looking man was sitting there so I bypassed it and headed to the back of the library by the non-fiction section where they have tables and chairs set up. I found a nicely isolated table and sat down, opened by book and started to read, only to keep being distracted by the ungodly buzzing of a dying florescence light bulb. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't ignore it, so with a sigh I closed my book and decided to move to the periodicals section which also has table and chairs. I noticed, however, that the skeezy-looking guy was gone from the sitting area, so I happily plopped down on one of the chairs, opened my book, and began to read. An old lady took the seat across from me. I glanced up, gave her a small smile and returned to my book. Have you ever been in the movie theater and had people sitting behind you who rustled candy wrappers through the entire damned movie? Irritating, right? Well, my little old lady had books in a plastic bag, and she began to pull books out, put them back, pull books out, put them back. Rustle, rustle rustle. sigh Finally she found a book that suited her, and she settled down. Ah, peace. Of course, that's when the schizophrenic woman that likes to hang out in the periodicals section began to have a conversation with Invisi!Kelly in the seat across from her. She was giving poor Kelly-who-wasn't-there quite the tongue-lashing. A loud tongue-lashing. *weeps* She settled down a bit, and then someone in the juvenile section started up one the kid's computer programs with voices and sound effects: beep, bop, boop!. And then I heard the dinging of what sounded like a cooking timer. I don't think anyone was actually cooking in the library so maybe it was just signaling THAT MY PATIENCE HAD RUN OUT!!!!! Not a good day at the library. :-( And then today I heard on WVNPR that the entire state is under a flood watch. That's always fun. x-posted: dw, lj, ij
Mon, May. 4th, 2009, 12:38 pm What a day, what a day

Ugh. And the cruddy weather continues, which just makes me feel blah and uninspired and depressed. I'm so over spring rains. Today is going to be a long one at work because I finished everything I had to do by 11:45, which means I now have four hours after lunch to... stare at the wall? play with my action figures? read a book on the sly? work a crossword puzzle? *sigh*This weekend I did manage to get caught up on most of the shows I was way behind on: Heroes, Fringe, Medium, and Make Me a Supermodel. Now I just need to get caught up with America's Next Top Model, and I think I'm up to date on the shows I watch. I kind of dropped 24, and will marathon that when the season's over. It's so much more enjoyable that way. In the meantime, four hours and fifteen minutes until I'm outta here. x-posted: dw, lj, ij
Sun, May. 3rd, 2009, 11:18 am I suppose I should be ashamed of myself

I called my sister-in-law a little bit ago and, well, I lied and said that I wasn't going to make it to the twins' birthday party because I had a really bad sinus headache. Which is totally not true. The truth is that it's cold and drizzly and I just don't feel up to being in a contained space with a dozen or so one to eight-year-olds screaming and running around and actually giving me a headache. Plus since I'm pretty sure they almost forgot to invite me, I'm pretty sure I won't be missed all that much. I'll mail their birthday cards & money to them tomorrow. So, I'm staying home today. I feel better already. :-D x-posted: dw, lj, ij
Sun, May. 3rd, 2009, 08:32 am And it's back to being cold.

Chilly today. Blech. I'm so ready for warm weather to stick around longer than a day or two. Although to be honest, 80 0F weather in April (and now May) is way too hot. Can't we have mid-70s until late summer? Anyway, because it was too chilly to sit outside yesterday, I ended up spending the day finally catching up on a couple of my tv shows I let lie fallow - Heroes and Fringe. Heroes - I just don't know what to say about the season ender. I neither loved it nor hated it. I'll watch next season - probably much like I did this year: online and several episodes at a time. As for Fringe, I still have to watch last week's episode and then I'm all caught up so I can watch it in real time. I ♥ Walter thiiiiiiiiiis much. I thought the three episodes I watched last night were really good. Even Olivia was okay. I prefer all the other characters more, but I can live with her. Today, I want to watch a few episodes of Medium, and then I need to go to a birthday party for the twins; the invitation to which I got in the mail Friday. I have a feeling their mother forgot to send me one earlier. Whatever. Since I only give money, it's not like I had to go scramble for birthday gifts. But it would have been nice to have a little more notice. Anyway, all the tv watching and birthday party going means I haven't even opened any of the books I took out of the library for this weekend. But I'll probably at least start one tonight after The Amazing Race - the third Alex Delaware novel, Over the Edge.

Fri, May. 1st, 2009, 07:18 pm Dollhouse: Haunted

I just finally watched last week's episode of Dollhouse, and I totally loved it. But what I loved best? OMG! Echo's clothes. And the shoes she wore to the funeral? Those were totally hot shoes. If my feet weren't old and fat and achy, I'd buy those shoes! Well, I probably couldn't afford those shoes, but I'd want those shoes! But really, that episode? Was a really good episode. x-posted: lj, ij, dw
Fri, May. 1st, 2009, 04:18 pm I'm bored and y'all have to suffer for it

I have just had absolutely no ambition to work today, and so I really haven't that much. I've played around on DW and LJ more than I have in a couple weeks probably, and even caught up on icanhazcheeseburger. :-) With regard to DW, I went ahead and bought a paid account for a year. That gives me access to pretty much what I want. It also includes 75 icons, and I'm really going to consider what I upload. My LJ account is stuffed full with mostly fan related icons, but I think I'm going to try and find more general interest icons for DW. Certainly I'll have fan icons, too; just not 50 David Hewlett/RodneyMcKay or Spike/James Marsters ones. ;-) The one thing I like best about DW is the cross-posting feature. I like the idea that I can type one post and it shows up on my other journals. Up until now, my IJ account has been pretty much unused. I will post any fic I write - which as of now is pretty much nothing - to LJ with links posted at DW & IJ. I am eagerly awaiting the point where DW has a greater selection of journal styles. The three they have now are fine, but I'd like something a little different. I was happy to see they got the spell checker fixed, though. I need it! LOL And as a reminder, I still have three DW invites left. x-posted: lj, ij, dw
Fri, May. 1st, 2009, 01:15 pm cross-post testing

I'm just testing the crossposting feature. ETA: Huh, the crosspost to LJ worked, but not to IJ. Has anyone else had trouble with this feature? I'm not using a client, just the crossposting ability of Dreamwidth. ETA The Second: Okay, I went back and deleted my original setup of my IJ account and redid it, and now it's working, so it must have just been screwed up somehow. Y'all can just ignore me now. :-)

Mon, Mar. 24th, 2008, 10:18 am Drabble: The Task

Posted new drabble at my Buffyverse fic community. The Task
Fri, Mar. 21st, 2008, 03:52 pm Yay, Brendan!

So, I just finished watching Thoughtcrimes, and I really liked it. Joe was just as dorky as Brendan Dean as he is as John Sheppard, and I can really see why people love to write the crossover fics because Emmett and Brendan would be so much fun together! Now I really want to read the fic that's been written.
Fri, Mar. 21st, 2008, 01:53 pm *cough* *hack*

Yeah, this was supposed to be a relaxing day off, but instead, I think I'm coming down with a cold. I'm not coughing all that much, but my voice is kind of froggy and I feel kind of punky. Part of my plans for today was to watch some Torchwood, Heroes, and the Joe Flanigan movie Thoughtcrimes. There's been a lot of fic posted over on LJ featuring DH's character, Emmett, from Boa Vs. Python and Joe's character, Brendon Dean, from Thoughtcrimes, and I need to acquaint myself with the Brendon character to really appreciate the fic, I think. However, I'm finding myself not much in the mood to watch anything. :-( Maybe I should take a nap. After all, I've been up for a couple of hours now. *facepalm*
Wed, Mar. 19th, 2008, 10:53 am *taps microphone* Hello. Hello! Anybody out there?

Heh. Thought I'd actually make a post here. I don't come here very often even though I have a permanent account because everyone's still at LJ. The Russians, however, are starting to piss me off, so I'm going to be here Friday for sure. I'm horribly bored today at work. I hate these slow time because it just makes the day just that much longer. How I wish I'd been one of the ladies that won the big Powerball lottery this week. My office played too, but alas, it was not to be. I heard on the radio that none of the winners had plans to quit work, which just amazes me. In my office we all joke that if we win a big lottery, the office will be totally empty the next day because we'll all e-mail our notices in. Of course, I always say that I would need to come in for at least one day just to gather up all my ( toys ).
