Fic Archive Update

I'm not sure who, if anyone, will care, but I've changed my SGA fic archive here on IJ. I was going to use a community (asylum), but I didn't care for the way it worked, so I've deleted it and created a separate personal journal for my fic - [info]sandys_sga_fic. I've posted all my SGA fic there now, and even made a neat little index with links and summaries and ratings. (Wow, do I write a lot of smut. *g*) I have my Buffyverse fic at [info]sandysfic. I should probably buy a rename token and change it to sandys_btvs_fic or something, but, eh, it's not like anyone's going to go there anyway. It's more for myself to have my fic all gathered safely together.

Anyway, if I write anything new, I'll post a link here to the proper journal.

One more accomplishment

I didn't mention it yet, but I bought a permanent account this morning. I've managed to upload my David Hewlett moodtheme, and I've edited my profile a bit. Little by little I'm going to customize this journal, but it's not anything I need fuss about overmuch yet. I'm just going to take my time and work on it when I think about it.

I do need to upload my icons as well, but again, no big hurry, and I really like the icon I'm using as my default.

The one bad thing about the transfer of journal entries from lj is that none of my comments transferred with the posts. That really sucks, especially when it comes to my fic. Oh well, I do have it all backed up to my hard drive so should LJ decide to TOS me for whatever reason, at least it won't all be lost.

I'm all moved in

In case anyone's looked at my journal and noticed a bunch of entries, I've been able to copy my lj here. I think I'm going to go ahead and buy a permanent account here since it's so cheap. I'm also going to open a fic community for my bverse fanfic and copy that journal over here too.

I'm not leaving lj, but it is a good idea to have a copy here.

Too hot, too tired

I just saw this in the [info]scifiwire feed:

The creators of the upcoming ABC sitcom Cavemen said the idea may have started with the popular Geico TV commercials, but that the show will take things in a different direction.

Um, yeah. From what I saw they're going from clever and funny to trite and insulting. Good move.

I haven't seen anyone doing a review of the BtVS S8 Issue 5, although I may have just missed it as my lj reading has been a bit spotty. I read it a couple days ago and I wondered, spoilers )

My Doctor Who lost his sonic screwdriver, dammit. Yesterday I had a problem with one of my printers that called for messing around with the cables. In the process I had to move my box o' Who and didn't notice that the Doctor had tumbled over. By the time I noticed, his sonic screwdriver was well and truly gone. I'm afraid it may have fallen between my desk and the wall where it is impossible to get to. Dammit!

Had to take my mom to the dentist today to get a filling, and omg, it was so frickin' hot. Thank god for car a/c because I think I would have passed out halfway there. The dog days of August are well and truly here.

One of the few memes where I felt the answer was right

What is your Patronus )

My Harry Potter obsession continues. I went Friday to see Order of the Phoenix, and while I really liked it, the unfortunate thing is that when you have a book only slightly smaller than The Collected Works of Shakespeare, so much has to be abridged that many of my personal favorite scenes in the book were either truncated or completely missing. Still, I thought the movie enjoyable.

On the way home, I stopped and picked up the books I don't have, and I've started re-reading the entire series. I'm about a quarter of the way through Chamber of Secrets now.

In non-Potter fandoms, I've just finished watching the SGA panel from the San Diego ComicCon that's up on the Sci Fi website. I know this will probably piss off Joe Flanigan fans, but he doesn't seem to have much of a personality. I don't know if he's usually like that or if he was just not in the mood or what. Thankfully, I'm a David Hewlett fan and he and Amanda Tapping were wonderful. They really do love each other, you can tell. I'm really curious now as to how they're going to play off Carter and McKay in Season 4. And I'm still really worried if the fucking Sci Fi Channel is going to pick up Season 5.

Well, back to Harry Potter

Ah, I can almost hear the sounds of cheers

I'm starting to get a little tingly feeling. No, my extremities haven't fallen asleep. I mean that more and more the sports pages are beginning to fill with articles about football. I love football. And when I say football, I mean the Steelers. And when I say the Steelers, I mean Troy Polamalu. *g*

No, really, I love the Steelers. Grew up loving the Steelers. And I love the WVU Mountaineers even when they break my heart. Football is the only sport I follow. I love college football as well as (if not more than) professional football. I can easily spend my weekends watching game after game after game. I love Monday night football and Thursday night football. I love listening to Mike & Mike in the Morning on ESPN radio during football season. I love watching Pardon the Interruption on ESPN when I get home from work.

And I used to love talking about the games with my dad. I'm really going to miss that this year.

Bad news, I'm potentially evil (well, I always knew that). Good news, I have Severus Snape for my Head of House. *g*

Harry Potter Review

Wouldn't you know that yesterday I wrote this long review and then when I went to post, the Death Eaters had cursed lj. ;)

Okay, so I've read some of the reviews/thoughts and I'm ready to post my own. )

Collapses in a weary heap

Whew! I'm back. After consuming over 2,000 pages of Potter (Books 5, 6, & 7) in less than a week, I might be slightly Pottered out, though I plan on going through my flist and looking up others' reviews and thoughts. Since I finished Book 7 only a short while ago, I think I'm just going to let my thoughts stew a bit before I write anything too in-depth. And then again, I may not have anything too in-depth to say.

Anyway, outside of Potterdammerung, I've not done anything else. Since I was coming to the end of Deathly Hallows, I did stop by the library yesterday and pick up the first two books of the His Dark Materials trilogy. I seem to recall someone or several someones mentioning this series on lj, and so thought I'd give it a try. Now that I'm back in reading mode (well reading something other than SGA slash), I'm hoping to get in several more books. My brain seems to be nudging me to reread The Belgariad and The Malloreon series again. I've not read them in years, and they're probably my favorite fantasy series ever.

It's here!

9:35 am

Deathly Hallows has arrived at my doorstep. And on the box reads the warning:

ATTENTION MIUGGLES - DO NOT DELIVER OR OPEN BEFORE JULY 21!

It also contains a drawing of an owl bearing a letter addressed to Harry Potter in its beak. Very cute.

So, I'll see y'all in a few days as I still have to finish re-reading book 6 before I can start book 7.

Happy Potterdammerung!

Potter!!!!!!

I got a notice from Amazon that my book is being prepared for shipment!

While doing a really quick run through of my flist I saw that many are taking refuge from the internet until they've read B7. I'm probably going to do the same. Not because of possible spoilerage though. While I certainly don't wish to be spoiled, I'm also going to try to get OotP and HBP reread before my book comes on Saturday. Uh, yeah. I picked up OotP at the library last night after work and have 78 pages out of 870 read. *facepalm* Things are not looking good. But, as I said yesterday, I'm in a slow period at work, and I'm going to take advantage of the fact that I have a corner office at the back of the room almost hidden from the rest of the world, and I'm going to read my book. Hah! That's really sticking it to the man, I tells ya.

In other, non-Harry Potter related news, today is the official first day of the Redneck Invasion of the Upper Ohio Valley, also known as Jamboree in the Hills aka The Super Bowl of Country Music. It's a huge outdoor country music festival that takes place over in Ohio about five miles from here. Just imagine it. Thousands of Rednecks from all over the world hanging out, drinking beer and whiskey, getting naked, having sex in the mud (there's always mud, either man-made or natural), and puking their guts out to the sounds of Brad Paisley and the Charlie Daniels Band. Yeah, I've never gone, and most likely never will. However, a goodly number of the rest of the city are there, including my boss. *g*

I am bored

Bored. Bored bored bored.

The problem with getting all efficient and working hard and getting things caught up and even done in advance is that when there is a slow period, there is nothing to work on. I am in a slow period right now, and I am woefully, drearily bored. The only thing I have to do will take me approximately 30 minutes or less to complete. I'm saving it for this afternoon.

Also, I am not having a good hair day, today. It's not as bad as Angel's 1880's hair, but then few things are. Except maybe Angel's horrible 1970's hair.

*shudder*

I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon. I hate doctor's appointments. At least this on isn't one where I have to strip and dress in a teeny piece of tissue paper and then suffer an interminable wait in a cold examination room (that one comes next month). No, this one is with my endocrinologist so I get to remain clothed while I suffer an interminable wait in a cold examination room.

And in closing, I'm bored.

Tue, Jul. 17th, 2007, 03:01 pm
Awesome hair day, part deux. Also pimpage

My hair looks marvelous again today. Score! It was looking just a little helmety so I gave it just a bit of a ruffle and now it's smashing. *g*

For all you Spike fans out there, and you know who you are, [info]shadowlass has started a new community to celebrate ten years of Spike. The tenth anniversary of the blond bombshell's first appearance on BtVS is rapidly approaching, and so in celebration, [info]decadeofspike was born. Go, read the community info, join, and create. Go! Shoo!

[info]liz_marcs has started posting a Spike/Xander gen road trip fic, The Last Tin Soldier, rated PG. She has two chapters posted already, and it's a grand read. I find that I'm reading more and more gen fic in both the fandoms in which I do read slash fanfic. Mostly it's because I'm seeing more and more kink fic coming out, and kink just isn't my thing. So I'm taking refuge in gen fic. Chances are that if I do get something written for [info]decadeofspike, it'll turn out to be gen too, because most likely it won't be Spuffy. :(

Tonight there will be picspam from me. I brought in my camera and took pictures of my office area including all my AFs. I have to wait until I get home before I can upload the pictures from my camera since I don't have a memory card slot on my work hard drive. So stay tuned for pics of my cruddy work area. :)
