And now a post about me, rather than a meme

So, looks like LJ is down again, so I'll post here since this was all typed out and stuff.

First the good news. Oh, no, wait. This is the really bad news. Got word last night that my oldest brother (66 years old and should know better), was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident yesterday. He and three of his sons were taking part in some kind of a charity ride or something, and he broke away to go home. On the way, he skidded on gravel and he and the bike slid 35 feet over the road. He has a smashed tibia, a broken wrist, broken elbow, really bad road rash across most of his skin, gashes on his face, and a small brain bruise (thankfully, not serious). By the time the doctors put in all the bars and bolts and whatnots, he's going to be the freaking bionic man. As of noon today, he hadn't had any surgeries yet because he's on blood thinner and they have to get that stabilized before they can take him to surgery. No doubt, he'll be spending many long weeks in a rehab facility. The good news is, he's neither dead nor crippled, though how fucked up his mobility is going to be is unknown at this time.

On a happier note, after three days, the cats have finally decided yesterday to forgive me for going away and leaving them with strangers. JT came up on my lap three or four times yesterday evening for pets and scratches, and TJ actually crawled into my arms for a long nap; something he hasn't done for a while.

I have yet to remember to bring my new Fool for Love Spike into the office with me. Maybe I'll keep him at home after all.

Speaking of the office, the building maintenance crew is busy doing some renovations, and I am currently being driven mad by the sound of a drill boring into something in the next office. It's loud and very annoying.

It's supposed to be hot this weekend. Though I am sure that there are many people who will be very happy about that, I've been enjoying the cooler weather. I just hope it doesn't get too hot to sleep.

Another Wednesday has rolled around

This time next Wednesday, I'll be eagerly looking forward to 5pm, and the start of my mini-vacation. I'm not planning on going anywhere other than a party my oldest brother it throwing on the 24th, and I'm looking forward to lounging around, I hope in warm weather, and just relaxing and reading.

I think I've already read the book I'm currently reading, Stealing Shadows by Kay Hooper. It's not that I really remember it, but it keeps setting off deja vu-ish 'pings' in my brain. So, it's like a book I've never read, except not. Weird.

I thought last night was the finale for NCIS, but it wasn't. So, next week in the finale. Last night was the finale for Fringe and I'm ready for season two now!

And it's Monday all over again

I didn't cross-post my last couple of entries, so this one will be.

As I posted on LJ here (warning: spoilers), I went to see the new Star Trek movie yesterday, and I really enjoyed it. Funny thing though, (and this is all non-spoilery), as I left the theater, I thought, "I liked that, but I don't particularly want to see it again, and I doubt I'll buy the DVD), but by 9:00 last night I was thinking, hmmmm, [brother and sister-in-law] are going to go see it, maybe I'll tag along with them and watch it again. And, I wonder when the DVD is coming out. LOL Yeah, I think I'm kinda in love. Also? I need a Kirk/Bones icon.

The only reason I wouldn't want to go back to see the movie is because I damned near froze to death yesterday. I swear it was below freezing in that theater. I think they sublet the building to a meat packing plant. I had a sweater with me and I was stretching it to try to cover myself to keep warm. I should have brought a thermal blanket and worn mukluks. Ridiculous.

I continue my frenzied reading schedule. I'm on my fourth book for this month, and it's really good. I've been very lucky in the books I've picked out over the past couple of months. Though some were better than others, none were "bad" in the sense that I felt the need to just give up on them. Which I will if the book doesn't hold my interest at all. My philosophy is that there are too many books in the world to waste my time reading a bad one. :-)

I got an e-mail this morning from Northwest Airlines that the time of my flight for Writercon has changed again. Now I leave at 1:45pm with is about 20 minutes earlier than the last time they changed it. This is okay by me, I just hope they don't cancel the damned flight. It's a long drive to Minneapolis from here.

I was fairly happy with last night's finale on The Amazing Race though I would have preferred the second team to come in last. But, the team I was rooting for came in first, so yay!

I watched the Dollhouse season (series?) finale yesterday, too. Man, I hope Fox gets their heads out of their asses and gives this show a second season. I'm not holding my breath, though, because it's Fox and they suck.

It's Monday, and yet another dreary day. Double whammy.

I suppose I should be ashamed of myself

I called my sister-in-law a little bit ago and, well, I lied and said that I wasn't going to make it to the twins' birthday party because I had a really bad sinus headache.

Which is totally not true.

The truth is that it's cold and drizzly and I just don't feel up to being in a contained space with a dozen or so one to eight-year-olds screaming and running around and actually giving me a headache. Plus since I'm pretty sure they almost forgot to invite me, I'm pretty sure I won't be missed all that much. I'll mail their birthday cards & money to them tomorrow.

So, I'm staying home today.

I feel better already. :-D

I'm bored and y'all have to suffer for it

I have just had absolutely no ambition to work today, and so I really haven't that much. I've played around on DW and LJ more than I have in a couple weeks probably, and even caught up on icanhazcheeseburger. :-)

With regard to DW, I went ahead and bought a paid account for a year. That gives me access to pretty much what I want. It also includes 75 icons, and I'm really going to consider what I upload. My LJ account is stuffed full with mostly fan related icons, but I think I'm going to try and find more general interest icons for DW. Certainly I'll have fan icons, too; just not 50 David Hewlett/RodneyMcKay or Spike/James Marsters ones. ;-)

The one thing I like best about DW is the cross-posting feature. I like the idea that I can type one post and it shows up on my other journals. Up until now, my IJ account has been pretty much unused. I will post any fic I write - which as of now is pretty much nothing - to LJ with links posted at DW & IJ.

I am eagerly awaiting the point where DW has a greater selection of journal styles. The three they have now are fine, but I'd like something a little different.

I was happy to see they got the spell checker fixed, though. I need it! LOL

And as a reminder, I still have three DW invites left.
